The Career Portfolio, also called Career Passport in some states, is part of the career development process. It helps students prepare for life after high school as they assemble its components and work through their hopes and dreams for the future. Many states strongly recommend their high schools and students employ this powerful tool.

Students generally put the following elements into their Career Portfolios or Career Passports:

1. Letter of Verification - written by an administrator at the school, and indicates school support for the Career Portfolio system.
2. Resume - summary of education & employment history, extracurricular activities, volunteer experience, achievements, objectives, goals, skills, etc.
3. Transcript - includes the student’s grades, courses, and attendance record.
4. Career Narrative - outlines career goals and alternatives for the future.
5. Proof of Employability Skills - students communicate their competency in the SCAN skills of resources, interpersonal, information, system, and technology.

Additional elements - school profile, list of student accomplishments, letters of recommendation, sports vita, documentation of other abilities, documentation of community service.
